What is Landscape Design?
Landscape design goes beyond choosing individual plants. It’s about imagining how an entire outdoor space comes together- where paths lead, how garden beds connect, how plants create rhythm and balance, and how a space evolves through the seasons. At its heart, landscape design helps transform scattered elements into a cohesive and welcoming environment.
What are these Landscape Design Workshops?
These Landscape Design Workshops are relaxed, studio-style sessions
designed to make landscape design approachable and enjoyable.
Each week includes a brief introduction to a design concept, a guided sketch exercise,
and open time to explore your own ideas in a comfortable, creative setting.
Whether you’re planning a garden now or simply curious about thinking like a designer,
these workshops offer space to learn, experiment, and imagine what’s possible.
FAQ
Do I need prior design experience?
Not at all. These workshops are open to all experience levels. Whether you’ve arranged containers, planted some annuals, or done some design- you're welcome. Even if you've never done any of these things before, you’ll be guided step by step in a relaxed, encouraging setting.
How is this different from a gardening or planting workshop?
Other workshops might focus on arranging plants, or walking through gardening skills. Landscape Design Workshops explore how entire spaces come together: layout, rhythm, structure, and long-term vision. It’s the bigger picture, approached in an accessible way.
Do I need to bring anything?
No. But, you're welcome to bring inspiration photos and resources if you'd like. And if you have a specific site in mind (for example, your own backyard, or your dream house) it is helpful to bring photos of the site.
Do I need to know
how to draw?
No drawing experience is required. We use simple sketching as a thinking/planning tool,
not as an art exercise.
Instead of 'sketching',
think 'labeling' and 'marking'.
The goal is exploration and clarity, not perfection.
Is this hands-on?
Yes. Each session includes a short design introduction, a guided exercise, and open design time where you can develop your own ideas at your own pace. Conversation and reflection are woven in throughout.
I just enjoy
gardening casually.
Is this still for me?
Absolutely. If you enjoy thinking about plants, imagining possibilities, or spending time in creative spaces, you’ll feel at home here.
What if I don’t have a yard right now?
You’re still welcome. Many participants attend simply to explore ideas, practice creative thinking, or imagine future possibilities. The workshops are designed as a studio space where you can experiment, dream, and develop confidence- whether you’re designing for today or someday.
What will I leave with?
You’ll leave with:
-
a working sketch or concept
-
new design tools you can reuse
-
greater confidence in understanding & planning outdoor spaces
-
and often, a fresh sense of creative energy
Remember..
These workshops are as much about creative exploration as they are about practical design. Come with a project- or simply come with curiosity. Our goal is to enjoy a comfortable space where everyone is brainstorming a bit, and guided whenever they'd like.
